Manifestation Media’s SONIC BLOOM 2018 Festival Pro Tips + TOP 7 MUST SEE MUSIC ACTS + Full Festival Lineup & Schedule!

SO HYPED to say that there is less than 1 week until the 13th annual SONIC BLOOM! Finding & falling in love at, making friends, learning, growing, and working for SONIC BLOOM has absolutely been one of the greatest challenges yet most fulfilling joys in my life so far. 2018 will be my 6th year in a row at the festival and my second year as OFFICIAL PROMO TEAM STAFF! I will be at the festival creating the INSTAGRAM STORY for the weekend. Find me at the festival to get blasted on social media.

As a longtime festival goer, I have a nice list of what I am calling my “Festival Pro Tips” including a couple pieces of advice when it comes to surviving and THRIVING the SONIC BLOOM experience.

It is also important to note, that no matter how hard I attempt to prepare in the best possible way, each festival I go to is truly a unique adventure full of plenty of surprises that can usually neither be planned nor properly packed for in advance. So consider my tips a gentle nudge in the direction of success.

Ultimately how much fun you have a seems to have more to do with your attitude and your willingness to SURRENDER TO THE FLOW & GRACEFULLY BLOOM into each magical moment of the experience.

MANIFESTATION MEDIA’S FESTIVAL PRO TIPS:

#1 – TAKE BUS TO SHOW!

Looking for the best way to get to the festival from the Denver area? Join the party on the way to the party. The Homies at BTS are doing rides from Denver’s Union Station directly to Hummingbird Ranch.

Save Gas. Save Lives. Save Earth.

#2 – GRAB AN EARLY ENTRY PASS

Arrive early on WEDNESDAY to get the best possible camping spot and settle into your space before the crowd hits to actually enjoy the first day of the festival.

#3 – GO VIP

Arrive early and get the best of the best in camping access, beverages, food, a merch package & MORE!

#4 – VISIT THE OASIS BATH HOUSE

Plan in advance to take a hot shower and maybe even get a massage before hitting the dance floor Saturday night. In my experience taking the time to refresh and take care of yourself is 100% WORTH IT. Step onto the dance floor feeling INVIGORATED and ready to DANCE ALL NIGHT!

OASIS

#5 – DOWNLOAD THE FESTIVAL APP & PRINT MULTIPLE DAILY SCHEDULES AT HOME (Attached below)

Keep one schedule at your camp and the other one in your bag or pocket for easy dance floor access.

#6 – BRING A HEADLAMP/FLASHLIGHT + EXTRA BATTERIES

While the primary festival areas will be lighted by an amazing glow of magical art installations, stage lighting, and bright generator powered lighting, the porta potties and the late night/early morning walk back to your campsite could be dark and treacherous. The festival is held on a ranch in the “Rocky Mountains” therefore is rocky and rugged terrain. TAKE IT SLOW and BRING A FLASHLIGHT to avoid dangerous travel and scary potty situations.

41g9UzrTzrL._SL500_AC_SS350_.jpg

#7 – BRING A REUSABLE WATER CONTAINER & DRINK LOTS OF WATER

Colorado’s hot and dry climate + high elevation is a recipe for dehydration if you are not fully aware of your water intake. Water is free and available at various locations throughout the festival site so take full advantage and drink as much as you can. If you are concerned about the quality of the water (as many are) consider grabbing a bottle with a filter built into it. Another idea to consider is to bring a refillable 1-5 gallon jug to keep back at camp so you don’t always have to go to the water stations for a refill.

SB16_Merch_Water-Bottle_1.0.png

#8 – BRING QUALITY CAMPING AND OUTDOOR PROTECTION – DOUBLE CHECK ALL CAMPING GEAR BEFORE YOU ARRIVE.

Make sure you don’t forget things like stakes for your tent as high wind conditions may exist and you 100% DO NEED to fully stake down all tents. Camping gear that is in good shape, Sunblock + Aloe Vera Gel, Hats, Tarps, Raincoats, comfortable Sneakers AND/OR Boots, Sandals and so many more things should be considered when packing for a multiple-day adventure at Hummingbird Ranch.

 >>> REVIEW THIS CAMPING CHECKLIST OF IMPORTANT ITEMS TO BRING!<<

#9 – READ BOTH THE HEALTH & SAFETY TIPS AND THE FAQ’S ON SONIC BLOOM WEBSITE!

#10 – FOLLOW THE RULES!

Everybody comes to SONIC BLOOM to have a great time, so do your part by following these simple guidelines to ensure your experience is as good as it possibly can be. KEY ITEMS HERE – NO GLASS, NO WEAPONS, & NO PETS!

#11 – BRING CASH & KEEP IT SAFE ON YOUR PERSON!

There will not be an ATM at the Box Office so you will need to be 100% prepared prior to arrival on site with your tickets. The ATM that does exist inside the festival is expensive and not always reliable in terms of being a great solution for getting cash. I highly recommend grabbing the cash you need prior to arrival and keeping it on your person.

#12- LEAVE YOUR PRIZED VALUABLES AT HOME & ONLY PACK IN & OUT WHAT YOU REALLY NEED!!!

I would NEVER RECOMMEND that you leave any type of valuables at your tent or campsite. Unfortunately every year people get robbed at the festival. It breaks my heart that people among us that would steal but the truth is the truth. Keep your campsite clean and tidy by only bringing what you really need to the festival. Keep expensive yet necessary items on your person and leave all other valuables locked in your car or at home. This year we also have LOCKERS available so if you don’t have a way to lock your stuff please consider this as a solution.

MANIFESTATION MEDIA’S TOP SEVEN MUSIC ACTS TO SEE AT SONIC BLOOM 2018

#1 – SONIC BLOOM ORCHESTRA

The SONIC BLOOM Orchestra is one of our favorite features each year! We can’t wait to see the magic that @dirtwire #Zilla@toubabkrewe@kaminanda and members of @sunsquabi@papadosio & MORE create together under the Colorado skies!

SUNDAY ON THE BLOOM STAGE 1-2AM

#2 – YAIMA

I am very excited to see one of my favorite groups in the world, Seattle based, Yaima, at this year’s bloom! This incredible medicine music duo has been amazing to heal too and watch transform over the last few years since I met them one night at Cervantes when they opened for The Human Experience. I am so elated they were finally booked for SONIC BLOOM. So much love to Pepper Proud for being an amazing friend and supporter of Manifestation Media over the last few years.

FRIDAY 8-9:15PM ON THE HUMMINGBIRD STAGE

#3 – VIBESQUAD

Don’t miss VibeSquad’s ONLY COLORADO performance of 2018. After learning through his recent video post WHY HE STOPPED DOING VIBESQUAD I am incredibly inspired to support this longtime SONIC BLOOM artist as he continues to share his love for live music production exclusively with our community.

SATURDAY 8:15-9:30 ON THE BLOOM STAGE

SB18-Talent-Meme-Vibesquad (1)

#4 – Maddy O’Neal

A local Colorado “lady of the moment” this set is one of my MUST SEE’s as I have truly enjoyed watching Maddy’s career evolve past prior collaboration “Krooked Drivers” and I love her fresh solo sounds. Let this uplifting hip-hop infusion of oldskool tracks with light and lifted electronic beats surprise and delight you.

FRIDAY 9:30-10:45 ON THE HUMMINGBIRD STAGE (right after YAIMA)

SB18-Talent-Meme-MaddyONeal

#5 – LIQUID STRANGER

Are you ready to let the “Weird & Wonderful” sounds of liquid’s “freeform bass” rock your world? I know I sure am. This one may just be one of the most anticipated of the festival and as the Thursday night headliner, I anticipate that it should set a great tone for the rest of the weekend at Hummingbird Ranch.

THURSDAY 12:45-2AM ON THE BLOOM STAGE

SB18-Talent-Meme-LiquidStranger (1)

#6 – DIGITAL ETHOS

Have you guys listened to his Beat Lab Radio 127 SoundCloud mix? I have had this on repeat for like a year now so this one is purely based on hoping that his SONIC BLOOM set is similar in magic to this SoundCloud mix.

SUNDAY 8:15-9:15PM ON THE MEADOW STAGE

SB18-Talent-Meme-DigitalEthos

#7 – JADE CICADA

I had the pleasure of meeting Jade Cicada & his management team in Nashville, TN last August as a muggy rain began to fall outside of the War Memorial Auditorium at the 1st ever “Deep Tropics” EDM festival that I worked as the VIP coordinator at. I remember talking to the crew about SONIC BLOOM and dreaming together that he would get to play at the festival this year. While I wasn’t “really” involved in his being booked for this year’s bloom I do feel like it was that rainy night in Nashville that we collectively put the idea out to the universe and hoped for him to make his debut at bloom this year, AND SO IT IS. THE MAGIC OF MANIFESTATION IS REAL! Just simply ASK the universe for what you want and watch the magic of manifestation unfold before your eyes.

FRIDAY 12-1:15AM ON THE HUMMINGBIRD STAGE

Manifestation Media’s Top 7 Colorado 4/20 Weekend Events 2018!

62x5styofp701
Alex Grey Art used for Remixed Header Design by ManifestationMedia.com

Today is Saturday, April 7th and coincidentally today I am sharing my personal selection of 7 special events for Colorado 4/20 weekend 2018. While it was insanely hard to narrow it down to just 7 events, I feel this mix truly has something 4/everyone! STONERS B WARNED. 420 has now GONE FULL WEEKEND in CO and scanning the horizon it appears it could turn full “bongathon”. =)

My “party mom” advice: take it easy breezy this 4/20 and remember slow and steady wins the golden green turtle race. Plan now to designate a driver for any events you are going to consume ANY sort of substance at. Make sure if you partake you take part in making sure you make it home safe.

And now for a little flashback to my first year living and blogging in Colorado.

Why?  Because… “The seeds of the future can be found in the soil of the past.”

I remember the day I met Chris Anderson & The “Sunsquabi Boys” in Boulder, CO, the year was 2012 and I was a freshman in College. A mutual friend I met at JWU Denver campus that had gone to high school with Chris introduced me to the group. She invited me to an STS9 show that they were all going too at the chilly tail end of December at The Fillmore in Denver. I remember rocking the night away at numerous totally EPIC SunSquabi jam “after parties” on The Hill that year.

Though time has challenged all of us to grow and change to better fill the shoes of our larger SOUL PURPOSES, it was on that day 12/30/12, that the “Sunsquabi Boys”  became part of my musical SOUL FAMILY and STS9 became one of my SOUL FAMILIES favorite bands.

I had no clue then that time would do such a diligent job at watering the lovingly planted SunSquabi seed, shifting and transforming the band for the better. The house parties I grew to love quickly were quickly traded for shows at some of Colorado’s best venues.

How beautiful it has been to witness some of my favorite musicians BLOOM under the spotlight of venues like Red Rocks. How special it has been to watch the band that I once attended CU house parties with EXPAND and start to sell out larger and larger spaces like The Fillmore. For all of these reasons and so many more, my #1 event for 4/20 weekend in Colorado is OPIUO + Syzygy Orchestra/ SunSquabi at Red Rocks, on Saturday, April 21st, 2018!

The rest of the events on this list are in RANDOM ORDER and are simply my personal favorite picks for 420 events in Colorado this year. While there are TONS of other events happening all over the state for 4/20 week in CO I have hand selected those on this list to appeal to a variety of different types of art and music lovers.

The list includes a “Target Audience” that I have pre-determined based on years of experience marketing different events in the Colorado scene.

The list showcases a wide range of locations and ticket price points that should allow most Colorado 4/20 goers to find at least one event that matches both their personal style and budget.

HERE ARE MANIFESTATION MEDIA’S TOP 7 EVENT PICKS FOR 420 2018 IN COLORADO!

ME AT SONIC BLOOM 2013 – THE 1ST YEAR I STREET TEAMED!

BEFORE, the 2013 festival in April 2013, I was INSPIRED to created THE SONIC BLOOM FESTIVAL COMMUNITY group on facebook. Facebook groups had just started to take off in popularity at that point and I guess I figured it would be a way to keep in touch the “few friends” I had met at the festival. Nearly six years and six thousand+ community group members later, I manifested the job of Social Media Strategist & Community Outreach Manager for the 2018 festival season. YAY! I LOVE MY JOB!

How did I EARN my SONIC BLOOM festival ticket in the years 2014 & 2015? I joined the STREET TEAM AND I HELPED BUILD & MANAGE the live glassblowing ART INSTALLATION at the festival. It was in these years that I earned the name” Glassy Mermaid”. I love glass art and got to blow glass live at the festival in the years I went as part of this art installation team. The live-glassblowing installation is one of the very best installations at SONIC BLOOM and is a MUST SEE!

LIVE GLASSBLOWING AT SONIC BLOOM 2015

In 2016, I was single & sad because my house had just burned down. Ironically, IT WAS NOT A GLASSBLOWING ACCIDENT. LOL! I knew I needed to GET THE FUCK OUT OF MY HEAD AND FOCUS ON BUILDING SOMETHING NEW. So I signed up as an unpaid volunteer and was placed in the production office because of my prior work in the office setting for ARISE Festival. At the time I lived with the Rainbow Lightning Children’s Village lead coordinator Taylor Martin and her partner DJ Rob Treaphort. I want to take this moment to say THANK YOU to Taylor & Rob for helping me heal from the tragedy of my house burning down and being my best festival friends in 2016 at SONIC BLOOM. You both helped me heal so much from the pain I was going through and rediscover my inner child.

SONIC BLOOM 2016 – HANGING AT THE RAINBOW LIGHTNING CHILDREN’S VILLAGE – PHOTO BY JENA ANNE AKA @FILLYYOUREYES

Later that year in December 2016 I was added on Facebook and approached by the producer Jamie Janover. After sharing my extensive backstory and sharing how much the festival had changed my life, I was offered a paying gig on the festival social media promotion team. In 2017, I worked on the production team as a Social Media Strategist and consultant pre-festival and on-site during the event.  I loved creating the Instagram story and can’t wait to do an even better one this year.

The 7 Lucky Things I learned as an Envision 2017 Intern.

IMG_0679.JPG
THE FAMOUS PHOTO THAT GOT ME IN TROUBLE WITH MEDIA CREW…

Happy Monday to my festival family near and far! Today is March 27th, 2017 and the Envision Festival officially ended one month ago today. As you can imagine, it has taken me a little time to really reflect and regroup after what was surely one of the most educational and transformational experiences of my life. After seeing a synchronistic and serendipitous amount of lucky number 777’s pop into my life over the past few months, and feeling lucky to be alive after the disaster experience of losing everything I owned in a house fire on 2/6/16, I was inspired to use the “lucky 7” in my review of my personal experience as the one and only “Hospitality Annex” Intern at the 2017 Envision Festival in Uvita, Costa Rica. I checked in for the first day of my internship on Monday February 20th and checked out in the wee hours of the morning on Monday February 27th. Over those 7 days I learned a lot. While I learned a remarkable amount, the following 7 things are my HIGHLIGHTS.

  1. DON’T RUIN THE SURPRISE. Apparently sharing photos of the Envision site during build is not approved or thought very highly of. I made the first year intern mistake of “ruining the surprise” and shared a photo (pictured above) of one of the main stages on Instagram 2 nights before the festival started… Oops! (hides under rock in embarrassment for committing social media crime). Awkward learning experience but impressive to learn that my good friend Justin Brothers (Media Guru, Co-Founder, and Co-Producer of Envision) actually DOES CARE about what is shared online prior to gates opening. This experience showed me just how much thought and preparation goes into the way the festival shares on social media prior to the festival.
  2. If you are going to WORK IT in the jungle, prepare to operate in a constant state of MAGIC & WONDER. Wow is the word that comes to mind when following up this statement. What a joy to sweat and cart heavy things around to different parts of the festival in such a mystical place. I found myself CONSTANTLY LOOKING UP at everything the jungle had to share. Emerald green abundance, a wealth of tropical color, light, and a constant melody of jungle sounds (birds and monkeys mostly). The entire Envision site and the Playa Hermosa beach is absolutely one of the most beautiful places I have ever been in my life. Such a special gift to do any kind of work outside in a place so magical.
  3. SOAP & WATER hand washing stations EVERYWHERE make the festival experience EXPONENTIALLY BETTER! Another WOW, What a concept!!! Seriously enhanced my experience to be able to really clean my hands so regularly. I feel my focus on hygiene through cleanliness and a little daily boost from products like Emergen-C and Kick Ass Immune are the reasons I stayed so healthy while at Envision. I might also add that I did not get sick with any kind of serious illness the entire two weeks I was in Costa Rica using these products and regular hand washing as my secret weapons.
  4. Bringing your own contain for food to a festival is the best concept EVER. I enjoyed this aspect of the festival much more than I initially thought. Why? Even though my initial reaction was slightly negative – “meh” one more thing to pack, carry around, and clean. I quickly discovered that the lack of trash on the ground at the festival made me much happier than I could ever imagine! Before my experience at Envision I could often be found on festival sites like ARISE, Sonic Bloom, and Gem & Jam picking up and trashing random MOOP (matter out of place). On the Envision site finding trash worth picking up seemed to be more like a super difficult scavenger hunt than a task worth my time. I did find a few cig buts backstage. When will these naughty artist and production crews learn??? BUT – the rest of the festival site was utterly CLEAN AND CLEAR of larger debris, cups, cans, and all other random ugly crap that I typically spend my life escaping. Envision 2017 easily wins award for CLEANEST FESTIVAL I HAVE EVER BEEN TOO.
  5. Sometimes, the best way to insure your a “Happy Camper” is to rent yourself an AirBnB. Okay so the truth comes out – I did not actually camp in staff camping at Envision this year. Although camping was free and included with my ticket, my boyfriend and I elected to rent an AirBnB that was a 6 min drive into Uvita instead of going the camping route. We paid $40 for an in-and-out parking pass in the GA lot for the festival. We rented a car and had already been traveling in Costa Rica for 6 days when we got to staff check-in at Envision. While I missed having a place to chill and rest my legs inside the festival I don’t regret the decision to stay off-site. Why? Because after 10+ years of camping and going to festivals I know myself and how my body handles the stress of primitive camping type situations. I have a hard time sleeping with lots of noise. I wanted to be able to give my internship 100% and I wasn’t sure of being able to do that if I didn’t get any sleep. While I admire those who seem to be able to work hard in the heat for 48 hours straight with no sleep, I admit I am not one of them. Having a bed + shower, privacy, and a place to re-group and lock my valuables allowed me to relax and really give my all to the experience. Absolutely no regrets.
  6. Good vibes, good tea, and easy to grab snacks go a long way on Sunday. The final day of the festival came too quick. I was tired. I mean REALLY TIRED. But something told me to bring the little bit of this special herbal Hibiscus Tulsi tea I had brought with me from the fancy Ku-Cha tea store on Pearl St. mall. When I arrived for my scheduled 8am intern shift on Sunday, tempers amongst some of the staff working near me were flaring. Something about that 72+ hours with little to no sleep, problems, solutions, more problems, and more solutions had seemed to wear and tear on the attitudes of the staff. I asked myself, what do I know about grumpy and irritable people??? They likely need yummy tea and food! So I went to town making my special tea WITH LOVE using the traditional Tico Chorreador and asked some of the other hospo girls to help slice up some fruit. We set out the tea and food and sure enough most of those hangry frowns turned into snacking smiles.
  7. Hospitality takes HEART. My high school Hospitality Management teacher Mrs. Wieland used to say something to our class school that I truly feel Envision 2017 helped me actualize and reinforce. She used to say, “You have to have a heart for hospitality”. I can say she was 100% on point with that statement after several years of slowly working my way up in the entertainment side of the enormous hospitality industry. I have discovered the hard way that working festivals in particular is often grueling and unglamorous work. Lots and lots of late nights, early mornings, getting dirty, and grinding it out until the job is done. Simply put, you have to LOVE IT to really dive deep and get the most out of a festival internship. To really learn and grow in this game of life you have to LOVE YOURSELF and LOVE TO WORK HARD. You have to set aside your pain, personal problems, and live up to who you truly are and what you are capable of. You have to wash out and walk away from the old and welcome in the new pure life you deserve.

Austin City Limits Music Festival 2012 + C3 Presents ACL Late Night Shows!

(^PHOTO CREDIT STEEZE^)=  www.carolineplusben.com( this guy takes gorgeous shots!)

Only 7 weeks remain before the kickoff of one of the best festivals in the country!

Austin City Limits Music Festival makes its 11th year return to Zilker Park this October 12-14th 2012. Named after the legendary PBS concert television series, the Festival is produced by Austin-based C3 Presents, who also produce the famous Chicago fest Lollapalooza. Unlike many of the camping- style festivals around the country like, Bonnaroo and Camp Bisco, ACL is a daytime festival that usually ends around 10pm. After the fest ends thousands of fans and fest go-ers crowd the busy streets of downtown Austin and make their way to one of the hundreds of after parties the cities bars and clubs are known for. They don’t call Austin the “Live Music capitol of the world” for nothing; I would say that ACL is the biggest and best presentation of that motto, maybe second in line to the South by Southwest music conference (SXSW). In addition to the vast array of private ACL parties that happen that weekend around the city, C3 Concerts also does an ACL Late Night show series that starts at 10pm after the festival is over and is held at various clubs downtown such as Austin Music Hall, Stubb’s Waller Creek Amphitheater, La Zona Rosa, Emo’s East, The Belmont, Antone’s, The Parish, Lamberts and Wanderlust Live. The artist and venues for C3’s late night shows are listed below in addition to a link to buy tickets. However, if the show is already sold out the best way to get hands on these limited ticket supplies in the future is to join the C3 email list and watch for the pre-sale email they send out the day before tickets go on sale.

**Stay tuned for another post regarding NEW & UP and COMING 1st time artist to check out that managed to claim a spot on the coveted ACL 2012 lineup, as well as, returning acts that seem to have gotten bigger and better than ever!
